August Basket Classes/1 Comment/in Basket Weaving Events /by Annetta K
It’s the last day of August! My month disappeared in flurry of home remodeling. Not quite done, in September I tear my studio and dye room down and get it ready for paint and new flooring. Not exactly sure where I will put everything while the old flooring is being ripped out and new installed, but I know I will love it when it’s done! I’ll try to take some before, during and after photos for you.
Besides, self contracting and remodeling, I did do some teaching. In early August, a group of weavers in Sussex, Wisconsin invited me to teach. They had three projects going: Twizarr, T Tray and Arrows.
A Weaver’s Wonderland/0 Comments/in Basket Weaving Events /by Annetta K
I just got home from the Association of Michigan Basketmakers Annual Conference in Lansing, Michigan. This year’s event, A Weaver’s Wonderland, was inspired by Alice in Wonderland – complete with a mad tea party! I taught five classes, had great students and found time to enjoy the exhibit hall, luncheons, vendors and friends.
Last week I posted a photo of my basket, Beachcomber, which was raffled off at the convention. I have had several positive comments on that piece, but I wish you could have seen all the beautiful pieces they raffled off. Five other attending teachers had pieces in the raffle, however the real stars of the raffle were two pieces from Fred Ely’s collection:

Heritage Weavers’ 2016 Fall Event/2 Comments/in Basket Weaving Events /by Annetta K
The Heritage Weavers Fall Event takes place in Dayton, Ohio. This annual event started years ago as Mid Summer Weave; over the years, things changed and it moved to September and became a fall event. This year, the event moved to a brand new location, the Bergamo Center, and to the last weekend of August – just on the edge of the change of seasons.
The Bergamo Center provided great weaving rooms, as well as lodging and meals. The building is a large square with a tranquil central courtyard and the grounds are beautiful. I think the Heritage Weaver’s have found their retreat home!!
It was a great retreat – here’s a little photo journal of the weekend:

August 4-7, 2016 the Missouri Basketweavers Guild hosted their 25th convention, Weave the World, in St Louis, Missouri. Co-chairs Leanne Nielsen and Edeltraud Romvai had all kinds of fun planned for the weekend, from the teacher and vendor reception featuring an international smorgasbord to passports and basket bingo.

I just got home from ‘Celebrating 25 years of Weaving Friendships’ at the Stowe Basketry Festival. It was wonderful and worth every mile! Thank you Merry Vigneau, the staff at the Round Hearth, and all of you who came to teach classes or to take them. I’ll keep the words to a minimum and share a ‘few’ pictures:

Studio Notes/0 Comments/in In the Studio /by Annetta K
Yes, that is just a picture of the floor. The floor in my studio. Please note that it is clean. It is reed free. I even dusted! I actually just stood here and took it all in – it looks kind of impressive. This week our children come home and this will become living space – this week it won’t be reed strewn, but it may be covered in craft supplies and toys and little bodies. It will be a special kind of messy 🙂 Read more

The rambling thoughts of a basket teacher/0 Comments/in In the Studio /by Annetta K
warning – this post will be as scattered and messy as my studio
My studio is a mess, this is what awaited me this morning…and that’s just one corner. This will be another week of cutting and counting and bundling and packing basket kits – three thousand or so stakes, pounds and pounds of round reed, and thousands of yards of cane – by the end of the week I should have several hundred kits ready for my March and April basket classes. Basket Weaving in South Central Kentucky/9 Comments/in Out and About with Basket Weavers, Resources for Basket Weaving /by Annetta K
Shortly before the holidays, I was having a brown day – literally – I was dying pounds and pounds of reed dark brown. My phone rang, so I whipped off my dying gloves hoping to catch the caller before the answering machine. I was rewarded with Beth Hester’s sweet Kentucky voice. We had been trying to set up a time for us to talk, but her emails just kept bouncing back. So she called and my brown day was brightened with a pleasant conversation. Let me share a little about Beth and a few snippets from our conversation.
The Country Seat/0 Comments/in Out and About with Basket Weavers, Resources for Basket Weaving /by Annetta K
I am so excited that Angie Longenecker Wagner from The Country Seat, Inc. agreed to let me interview her. This family business in Kempton, Pennsylvania was established in 1975 by Angie’s mother, Donna Longenecker, as a seat weaving company. It quickly became a supply store for seat weavers and basket weavers. Read more

Weaving at Sea …
It all started when one of Sandy Bulgrin’s basket weaving students told her she had signed up to go on a knitting cruise. Sandy responded “But – Lucille, you don’t knit?” “I know … why isn’t there a basket weaving cruise?” Read more
