Basket Weaving with …

October 28, 2015/2 Comments/in In the Studio /by Annetta K

Asher.  Asher is six and would probably tell you what he loves most is to play Minecraft. But his Oma (me), doesn’t play Minecraft so this month we wove a basket together.  It was lots of fun for both of us. His mom said I could share a few pictures with you.

Asher - right side or wrong side?Step one – Right side or Wrong side?

 This is fun, Oma.

Weaving the Base – “I like this part, Oma”

Asher - locking the base

Locking the  base.

Asher - the first 3 rows. "I don't like doing this."

Weaving the first row.

Asher - three rows done - "Maybe I'll just use it as a hat"

“Those rows were hard.  Maybe I’ll just use it as a hat.”

Asher -"It's easier when I sit on the floor. How long will this take?"

“Row four is a lot easier, Oma.”

Asher - "Oma, you hold it while I weave."

“Oma, you hold it, I’ll weave.”

Asher - almost done.

Almost done!  Looks like a basket!

Asher -cutting stakes

Cutting stakes.

 Asher - cut and tuck

Tucking – “This is kinda hard, Oma”

Asher - lashing

Lashing

If you hold the basket I can pull really hard.

Lashing Asher’s way – “You hold it Oma and I’ll pull”

Ta-Da --- and it's done.

“Look what I made!”

Also on these visit Asher took great pleasure in whipping Oma at Candyland and taking hikes in the woods with Opa.

I love and learn from your blog, thanks, but this story will inspire my 5 yr old grandson to basket weave as we both learn (newbie 9 mos & counting). Thanks to Asher also for being a role model.
