Translated that means Oil Ball. \u00a0I know I know, it doesn&#8217;t sound very tasty, but trust me they are. \u00a0An Oliebollen is basically a donut with fruit in it.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t make Oliebollen, my husband does. \u00a0He inherited my mother&#8217;s deep fryer and loves to make them. \u00a0When our kids were home we always made them on New Years. Today our kids live scattered across the country and we don&#8217;t always make them on New Years, however, when we get together, whenever that is &#8211; we celebrate every holiday we can think of &#8211; including New Years!<\/p>\n<p>And so &#8211; just in case you feel like trying these &#8211; here is Ralph&#8217;s recipe for<\/p>\n<p><strong>OLIEBOLLEN<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC_0556.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-17465 size-portfolio\" src=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC_0556-495x400.jpg\" alt=\"Olibollen\" width=\"495\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC_0556-495x400.jpg 495w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/DSC_0556-845x684.jpg 845w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 TBSP yeast<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp sugar<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd cup warm water<\/li>\n<li>3 cups milk- scalded and cooled to lukewarm<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc cup sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 TBSP salt<\/li>\n<li>3 eggs<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc cup melted margarine<\/li>\n<li>4 cups dried fruit (raisins, currants and &#8230;)<\/li>\n<li>7 \u00bd &#8211; 8 cups flour<\/li>\n<li>48 oz oil<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mix yeast in warm water with 1 tsp sugar.\u00a0 Let stand for 10 minutes. Mix melted margarine and lukewarm milk; add remaining sugar, salt, eggs and 2 cups flour.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Add yeast mixture and dried fruit.\u00a0 Stir in remaining flour.\u00a0 Mix well.\u00a0 Cover and let rise until double, about 2 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Heat oil in a Dutch oven or fryer.\u00a0 Test oil by dropping 1 TBSP of dough into oil.
