{"id":17432,"date":"2016-12-21T06:33:02","date_gmt":"2016-12-21T12:33:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/?p=17432"},"modified":"2016-12-22T08:11:39","modified_gmt":"2016-12-22T14:11:39","slug":"almond-bars-for-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/index.php\/2016\/12\/21\/almond-bars-for-christmas\/","title":{"rendered":"Almond Bars for Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-9\" class=\"ingredient\">\n<div class=\"ingredient\">Being the child of immigrants from the Netherlands &#8211; almond is one of the flavors that remind me of childhood and Christmas &#8211; \u00a0I have several favorite almond cookies and pastry recipes &#8211; some of them take hours to prepare and I didn&#8217;t think you would want to spend that much time in the kitchen this week. \u00a0This one doesn&#8217;t take long, it doubles easily, freezes well and, best of all, looks and tastes delicious. \u00a0I got this recipe from <a href=\"http:\/\/barefeetinthekitchen.com\" target=\"_blank\">Barefoot in the Kitchen<\/a>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"ingredient\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-9\" class=\"ingredient\">\n<div class=\"ingredient\">Enjoy and Merry Christmas!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-9\" class=\"ingredient\">\n<div class=\"ingredient\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient\"><strong>ALMOND BARS<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1020869.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-17456 size-portfolio\" src=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1020869-e1482372431536-495x400.jpg\" alt=\"Almond Bars\" width=\"495\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1020869-e1482372431536-495x400.jpg 495w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1020869-e1482372431536-845x684.jpg 845w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient\"><strong>Main ingredients:<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-9\" class=\"ingredient\">\n<ul>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-1\" class=\"ingredient\">1 cup sugar<\/li>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-2\" class=\"ingredient\">1\/2 cup butter, room temperature<\/li>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-3\" class=\"ingredient\">1 egg, room temperature<\/li>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-4\" class=\"ingredient\">1\/2 teaspoon almond extract<\/li>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-5\" class=\"ingredient\">1 3\/4 cups all purpose flour<\/li>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-6\" class=\"ingredient\">2 teaspoon baking powder<\/li>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-7\" class=\"ingredient\">1\/4 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Topping:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 tbsp milk<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup sliced almonds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-13\" class=\"ingredient\"><strong>Icing:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-14\" class=\"ingredient\">1 cup powdered sugar<\/li>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-15\" class=\"ingredient\">1\/4 tsp almond extract<\/li>\n<li id=\"mpprecipe-ingredient-16\" class=\"ingredient\">1-2 tbsp milk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"mpprecipe-instructions\" class=\"h-4 strong\"><strong>Instructions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"mpprecipe-instruction-0\" class=\"instruction\">Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Mix flour, baking powder and salt and set aside. In a seperate dish, cream butter and the sugar. Add the egg and the almond extract, mix until light and fluffy. Slowly add the flour mixture to the butter mixture. Mix well.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mpprecipe-instruction-2\" class=\"instruction\">Press the dough into the bottom of a buttered 9&#8243; x 13&#8243; pan. \u00a0Use a pastry brush to brush a small amount of milk on the dough. Sprinkle with sliced almonds and lightly press into the top of the dough.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mpprecipe-instruction-4\" class=\"instruction\">Bake for 18-20 min, or until beginning to brown around the edges.\u00a0Don&#8217;t let them brown to much.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mpprecipe-instruction-6\" class=\"instruction\">Cool for 5 minutes and then cut into bars (1&#8243; x 2&#8243;). Carefully move each bar\u00a0to a wire rack to cool completely.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mpprecipe-instruction-7\" class=\"instruction\">When completely cool, prepare the icing, adding just a tiny bit of milk at a time.
