The bottom line is, almost any clip can be used, the important thing is to learn to use them effectively.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Clips are most useful when you weave the first few rows of a basket and upset the sides of the basket.\u00a0\u00a0Using them correctly will make a big difference in shaping, using them incorrectly creates shaping hurdles.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1010206_LI-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17392 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1010206_LI-2-1030x579.jpg\" alt=\"first rows - clipping\" width=\"1030\" height=\"579\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1010206_LI-2-1030x579.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1010206_LI-2-80x45.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1010206_LI-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1010206_LI-2-1500x843.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1010206_LI-2-705x396.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1010206_LI-2-450x253.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px\" \/><\/a>So first let&#8217;s talk about how NOT to use clips on the first rows of weaving a basket.<\/strong> \u00a0As you can see the picture above has a big X across it.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don&#8217;t use your clips to bundle the stakes &#8211; this creates a shaping hurdle by giving your stakes an incorrect placement memory.<\/li>\n<li>Using clips to bundle or hold stakes, rather than hold the weaver in place, will create gaps that are difficult to control and create a wimpy start to your basket.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t use heavy clips on the ends of your stakes- this pulls the stakes down when you are trying to make them stand up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NOW let&#8217;s talk about effective ways to use clips on the first rows of weaving a basket.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this tutorial, I use a basket with start stop rows, but clips are especially useful for the first rows of a continuously woven basket.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1010210.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17341 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1010210-1030x579.jpg\" alt=\"first rows - clipping\" width=\"1030\" height=\"579\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1010210-1030x579.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1010210-80x45.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1010210-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1010210-1500x843.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1010210-705x396.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/P1010210-450x253.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Use clips to hold the weaver to the stake it is weaving over. Rows are tight to each other and will need minimal packing.<\/p>\n<p>For the rest of the basket, clips may only be necessary at the beginning or end of a row. Clips can also be used to help control a problem area.
