This week I will be teaching one of my new basket patterns, Recursion<\/a>, at Stateline Friends Weaving Retreat in Richmond, Indiana for the first time.<\/p>\n

\"Recursion\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So I am releasing the pattern!<\/p>\n

Recursion is a set of 5 or 7 nesting baskets, made with 1\/8″ or 1\/4″ strips of painted paper<\/a>. \u00a0These bias weave baskets range in size from \u00a03 \u00be\u201d x 3 \u00be\u201d x \u00a02\u201d down to\u00a0\u00a05<\/sup>\/8<\/sub>\u201d x 5<\/sup>\/8<\/sub>\u201d x \u00be\u201d. \u00a0So\u00a0much fun to make!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Last week I spent my days preparing for class. Preparing for a paper<\/a> basket class is completely different than preparing for a reed or wood basket class. First, I painted lots and lots of sheets of water color paper<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Each sheet takes a fair amount of time: each side requires a base coat,<\/p>\n

\"Paint\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0the addition of one, two, three or even four\u00a0accent colors, a coat of sealant<\/p>\n

\"Painted<\/a><\/p>\n

and, of course, time to dry between \u00a0all those steps.<\/p>\n

\"papyrus<\/a><\/p>\n

Each sheet is cut into 4″ or\u00a0\u00a05″\u00a0strips using my rotary cutter.<\/p>\n

\"P1000410\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Then, I use\u00a0a hand crank pasta cutter with fettuccini (1\/4\u201d) and linguine (1\/8\u201d) cutters\u00a0to cut each wide strip\u00a0into narrower weaving strips. [After\u00a0destroying\u00a0a cheap pasta cutter, I purchased a Marcato Atlas 150<\/u><\/em><\/u> – it seems to be holding up to my abuse.]\"P1000404\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One large sheet makes enough material for one set of seven nesting baskets made with 1\/8″ strips and one set\u00a0of five nesting baskets made with 1\/4″ strips.<\/p>\n

\"Recursion\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Today, the paper is painted and cut and packaged – ready for class. And the pattern, Recursion, is available in my PDF pattern store – you can find it here.<\/a><\/p>\n
