This family business in Kempton, Pennsylvania was established in 1975 by Angie\u2019s mother, Donna Longenecker, as a seat weaving company. It quickly became a supply store for seat weavers <em>and<\/em> basket weavers.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/The-Country-Seat.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15754\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15754 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/The-Country-Seat-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"The Country Seat\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/The-Country-Seat-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/The-Country-Seat-450x338.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/The-Country-Seat.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> <!--more-->When she wasn\u2019t away at weaving events, Donna was filling orders. Her \u2018little\u2019 business\u00a0grew via word of mouth and it wasn\u2019t long before it had outgrown the old stone summer kitchen that served as the shop \u2013 soon the business overflowed to fill their farm -the barn, a trailer and even the chicken coop. In 1988, they built a pole barn and moved onto the hill.<\/p>\n<p>Donna\u2019s husband Bill joined the business full time in 1981, doing whatever needed to be done. Surrounded by the business, it wasn\u2019t long before he started weaving Nantucket style baskets, now his specialty. With orders for supplies to be filled and shipped as well as seats to be woven, there was always more to do than time to do it in \u2013 so of course their children, Angie and Billy, were\u00a0put to work.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShopNov2015.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15756\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15756 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShopNov2015-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"ShopNov2015\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShopNov2015-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShopNov2015-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShopNov2015-705x397.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShopNov2015-450x253.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.prairiewoodbasketry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShopNov2015.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Angie began weaving rush chair\u00a0seats at age 11; she was paid piece work for years. There was a never ending supply of customer\u2019s chairs so, while she learned how to do many types of weaving (seats and baskets) by observation, reading and example, she did not try her hand at them &#8211; she was afraid that her never ending work pile would only get larger! However, there <em>was<\/em> a half-finished coiled corn husk basket sitting in a box in the barn (warehouse), and every now and then, when no one was watching, Angie would pick it up and add a couple of stitches. Then, during college, Angie\u2019s 3-D design class required a final project made with <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/shareasale.com\/r.cfm?b=698238&#38;u=4196057&#38;m=57630&#38;urllink=www%2Ectpub%2Ecom%2Fsearch%2Ephp%3Fsearch%5Fquery%3DKraft%2DTex%2520rolls&#38;afftrack=\">paper<\/a>. Having no idea what to do, she repurposed watercolor <a title=\"\" class=\"aalmanual\" target=\"_blank\"   href=\"https:\/\/shareasale.com\/r.cfm?b=698238&#38;u=4196057&#38;m=57630&#38;urllink=www%2Ectpub%2Ecom%2Fsearch%2Ephp%3Fsearch%5Fquery%3DKraft%2DTex%2520rolls&#38;afftrack=\">paper<\/a>, leftover from another project, and cut it into long, narrow strips. She rolled them into loose cylinders and stitched them together with raffia. Her instructor loved it\u00a0(it was the only project of hers that he liked) and Angie was hooked. She went home, got a kit and wove a basket. From there, she worked her way through several books and never looked back. One of their signature items is the Weaving Table \u2013 a 14\u201d square, waterproof board with square and circular 1\u201d grids with a hole in the center for a T-pin when weaving spoked bottom bases. The Weaving Table is attached to a smooth rotating Lazy Susan. The grids help you evenly space the spokes and the Weaving Table rotates without the spokes catching on the work table. (I might need one of these!)<\/p>\n<p>The Country Seat is still family owned and operated: Donna\u2019s specialty is seat weaving, if you get stumped she has the experience to talk you through it. She is also in charge of the main office\/accounting work. Bill is in charge of the warehouse and he designed the Weaving Table. Angie teaches, vends and does anything that needs to be done, including their website. \u00a0Angie is also the moderator for the popular Facebook group:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/52584043191\/\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook Basket Weavers; basketry, gourd weaving &amp; more <\/a>&#8211; which she started sometime in 2009.
